Welcome to Lavender Hill Farm - a 1930's farmhouse sitting on the Burton Hill, overlooking inner and outer Quartermaster Harbor, Mount Rainier, lovely gardens and 1000 lavender plants. Our charming 30's farmhouse overlooks 1000 lavender plants, Inner and Outer Quartermaster Harbor and Mt. Rainier and the Cascades. The house is bright and cheerful in rain or shine, with almost an acre of gardens, walking distance to coffee and general store, on the bus line and away from it all. The entire house is yours - five guest rooms, three baths,, a large double living room, separate dining room and gourmet kitchen with five burner stove, three ovens - a true cooks kitchen. There is a second refrigerator in the daylight basement. The home has WIFI, three televisions, gas fireplace, charcoal grill and seating for guests on the farmhouse porch. Our property manager will welcome you and check you out. She's only minutes away if you need help, but not hovering. The house has a door code so keys aren't necessary. Lavender Hill Farm sits on the Burton hill, overlooking the little town of Burton, which includes a post office, Burton Coffee (the local gathering place), general store for whatever you forgot to pick up at the Thriftway in uptown Vashon. We are a 5 minute walk to the beach, 10 minutes to kayaking and paddle boarding and a 12 minute drive to the town of Vashon, with shops, restaurants, the best quilt shop ever, the Farmers Market and more. Vashon is known for its biking and hiking and all the guidebooks are in the house. It's best to bring a car to Vashon Island. There are buses that meet the ferries from Seattle and Tacoma (and you must take a ferry to get here - no bridge!) We are on the bus line, so it's possible for guests to get up town and back or to the ferries. (on Vashon Uptown means the town of Vashon; over town means Seattle). There is a passenger ferry to downtown Seattle that runs weekdays during commuter hours, and the Fauntleroy Ferry to West Seattle connect to bus routes that go downtown. You will have access to the three story house, including a kitchen garden with gas barbecue grill, shade garden, long farmhouse porch and flat lawn, two car carport. A second floor storage closet and basement office space will be locked, as this is my primary residence. Clothing and other personal belongings will be stored away during your stay. I have recently added a small studio to the property - it is not visible from the farm house, located in the lavender field. I may be in residence in the studio with my dog Jack and cats Mo and Pearl, or there may be a pet sitter staying. Lavender Hill Farm is a working lavender farm - you may see me or working in the field or in the greenhouse. Your privacy will be ensured, but I am happy to talk about lavender growing if guests are interested. When you arrive, you'll be welcomed by me or Janett Harrington the property manager - we will show you the house and answer questions. There will also be a full guidebook for your reference. There's a general store and Burton Coffee within walking distance. The Burton loop is the perfect place for a brisk walk and you can access the outer and inner Quartermaster Harbor. Believe it or not, on rural Vashon, there is bus service. The bus stop is two blocks away, and also swings by our house on the hour (and the bus driver will stop). Buses go into the town of Vashon and to the north and south ferry terminals. Please look at the schedule carefully - service is infrequent at certain times. Uber hasn't reached us yet. We recommend a car to fully explore the island. You should know - this is my home and my family includes one dog and two cats. Travelers who are extremely allergic to animals will not find the farm suitable. Those with slight allergies will be happy to know that bedrooms 2-5 are kept free of pets. **COVID UPDATE: As of August 20, 2020, Airbnb announced a global ban on all parties and events at Airbnb listings, including a cap on occupancy at 16. This party ban applies to all future bookings on Airbnb, and it will remain in effect indefinitely, until further notice. The home is furnished lovingly with a mix of vintage pieces and Ikea staples. There is lots of artwork on the walls, mostly by Vashon artists. The kitchen is exceptionally well-equipped. The farmhouse is perfect for family reunions, friends weekends, retreats for organizations and creatives.
