New Snow Alert! Still time to ski Sunday River & Wildcat! Get that goggle tan! Evans Notch Lodge is a rustic, 1930's-era group vacation property that is perfect for gathering for some outdoor fun in a peaceful corner of the White Mountains. Formerly a roadside cabin/motor court, the Lodge is tucked a few hundred yards down a scenic byway, ~10 miles from Bethel, Maine and Gorham, NH. Epic fly-fishing, hiking and mountain/fat biking are more activities that will keep your group coming back! Coming to Evans Notch Lodge with your group offers the fun and adventure of sleepaway camp, where you can enjoy daytime adventures and communal meals and campfires - but with the benefit of a private bedroom and bath to retreat to at the end of a long day. Our Lodge property is NOT a fancy hotel; the cabins and Lodge are 80 years old, the motel over 50. Our 'amenity list' includes hot showers, clean beds and towels, hand soap, and wifi.... and that's about it! We keep it simple, so you can focus on what's important - spending time in nature with your friends and family. Evans Notch Lodge is not a single building: the kitchen/dining and great room with wood stove is in the main building out front; there are 5 year-round sleeping rooms, each with its own entrance and bathroom, in the former motel block across the parking lot; and in the summer season (Memorial Day - end of September), there are two cabins included in the rental. Your rental gives you access to the entire property (Lodge + motel rooms + cabin(s) subject to seasonal availability), as well as our expansive lawn, gazebo, and 7 acres of woodland out back. There is plenty of on-site parking in the lot as well as along the circular driveway. While we are not typically on the property during your group's stay, we are always available by phone, text, and/or email to answer questions or provide assistance. We also have local contacts who are ready to assist our guests if necessary - but everything should be ready and waiting for your arrival. Gilead, Maine (where Evans Notch Lodge is located) is about 10 miles from both Gorham, NH and Bethel, Maine. Bethel is a quaint ski town, with Sunday River and Mt. Abram close by, and the Bethel Village Trails in the center of town for nordic skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking. Bethel also has fantastic restaurants and cafes, food trucks, quaint shops, the Gem Theater and the Maine Mineral Museum, just for starters. Gorham is the northern gateway to the White Mountains, close to Wildcat for downhill skiing, Great Glen trails for nordic, Tuckerman's Ravine and several backcountry sites created by Granite Backcountry Alliance. Gorham also features standout restaurants and is a hub of trail networks for ATV and moutain bike riding. Finally, don't overlook Evans Notch itself, where you can find some of the most beautiful yet uncrowded hiking trails in the Whites. In order to get to Evans Notch Lodge, you'll want to program your GPS for Gilead, Maine, and then take Route 113 off of Route 2. DON'T use the Wild River Road address, unless you're OK with getting lost in the backcountry down in Hastings (and that's if you aren't turned away by one of the closed gates that restrict access to much of the Notch road in the winter!) Our property is 'vintage' - as are all of our systems. We ask that guests be respectful of the limitations of our property, and help us keep it functioning for generations to come by being extra careful with plumbing, fires, smoking, etc. And while we make every effort to keep the teeny critters out of our spaces, these are old structures in a wooded setting - your group can help us out by keeping all food out of sleeping areas, and keeping the main Lodge kitchen and dining area free of crumbs, spills, pet food, etc.
