Riverhouse is close to Close to downtown Durango (about 2.2 miles from downtown- if you want to do much exploring you may want to have a car) family-friendly activities, nightlife, public transport, the airport, with a trolley stop right in front of house. You’ll love our place because of location, the light-skylight in room, the comfy bed, the coziness. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. We also have two cats Chess and Charlie. The Angel room is a favorite in the house. It is an "interior" small size room with a skylight and window over the atrium waterfall fountain. It is airy and bright and has a spacious feel, there are 3 steps down to the bathroom with a shower. (3 steps down with a handrail to bathroom so if mobility is an issue may not be appropriate). Let the angels watch over you during your stay. The room has a comforting, lovely energy. It's a huge ranch style type house, approx. 6000 sq ft. It centers around the atrium with waterfall fountain. All the rooms are private with private bathrooms and there's ample space even with several guests there. The house has been in our family for over 45 years and has seen several uses but it's always been home. It's run by 3 generations of women, Crystal (lives onsite), Kate (lives in LA but always available), and Sofia (lives onsite) with the help of our fabulous family friend Maya who also lives onsite. It's a fabulous spot for family events or group functions such as reunions, weddings, parties. It offers a peace and tranquility to every day life that is perfect for any get-a-way. The Angel room does have a small coffee maker, small fridge and microwave, but does NOT have a kitchen. If you check with Crystal first you may be able to use the main kitchen if available. Just so you're aware this room, as it is an interior room, smaller in size, and can be one of the warmer rooms in the house, although we just installed an air conditioner. There are also fans and the skylight but it can be warmer than the other rooms. We provide body wash and hand soap, but don't usually have bars of soap (as it can be wasteful) in the bathrooms but if you'd prefer a bar of soap just ask. If you forget any amenities we keep a stock of extras so again just ask. We strive to make your stay wonderful. Thank you! You're welcome to enjoy the Atrium or Living room during your stay if you'd like more space. Limited access to kitchen and options can be arranged with Crystal during your stay. The house has a lot of common area and guests are welcome to use it. Crystal is always up for a chat or game of chess or watching Jeopardy if anyone is interested or you'll have total privacy if that's more your style. If you arrive early or late and no one is around to greet you, make yourselves at home. We always try to give you specific directions on where your room is and how to get in if we know we won't be there to greet you. Our Special Use Permit #16-028 Crystal lives in the home and is usually available if you have questions or need something, but she doesn't always answer the phone so Kate or Sofia are the best people to call for urgent needs. We also have two indoor cats, Chess and Charlie. They are very lovable and do like to sneak into guests rooms if the door is left open, so we recommend making sure to close doors. Sofia has two dogs that visit sometimes and are usually outside, but if they are indoors they'll be thrilled to say hi. If you don't like dogs let us know and we'll make sure they're outside. Being a Durango Native, Crystal is a wealth of knowledge about the area and can offer lots of advice about things to do. Our family homesteaded in Durango so we know more history about the town than most average bears wanna know, but if you're one of those bears that love history....ask away. Crystal is usually up for a game of chess, a chat, etc, or you can have total privacy if that's more your style. Our location is unique because although it's in town it has a very country feel. With the river out the front door it offers amazing views, coyotes howling at night, and the occasional deer in the yard all with being able to be in the heart of downtown within 5-10 minutes! We are also about a 10 minute drive to Durango Hot Springs, and 25 minutes from Purgatory Ski Resort and endless other adventures. There is ample parking at our home and there is also a trolley stop right in front of the property. It runs up and down main street every 1/2 hr and is a great way to visit downtown if you're interested. The trolley has a stop right in front of our house and runs about every 30 min. It runs the full length of town so can take you right downtown. Check the hours of operation as it does stop running after 11pm. There are buses to and from the ski area also. - For events or parties guest must first talk with host before booking about their needs. If they want to use common area of main house there is an additional charge based on numbers. For last minute bookings we reserve the right to refuse an event. Please note that unless entire house is reserved for $500 per night which includes the three rental rooms, there may be other guests in the house besides your party. The owner's quarters are always occupied and the owner is on the property.
